A Rich History
Thomson House, originally built in 1934 as Maison Charles-Édouard Gravel in Montreal’s affluent Golden Square Mile, was acquired by McGill University in 1968 and soon became the long-sought headquarters of the Post-Graduate Students’ Society.
Officially opened as the Graduate Centre in 1969 and renamed in 1971 to honour Dean David L. Thomson, the mansion has evolved into a vibrant hub for post-graduate life. Today, it offers students an inviting mix of study lounges, conference rooms, dining spaces, bars, and a patio—blending its historic elegance with a welcoming atmosphere that fosters community and connection.
